Catherine's score for the feature documentary Gold Balls won Best Documentary Score at GSFF’s Movie Music Competition. Gold Balls won Best Feature Documentary at Southampton International Film Festival.
Catherine composed additional music for the Joseph Fiennes feature On Wings of Eagles which was in theaters in 2018 and is currently streaming on Amazon.
Catherine is also scoring the feature documentaries Naughty Books and The Augmentation of Douglas Engelbart, which are currently in post-production, and the horror feature The Parish.

Catherine was recently part of the music teams for four documentary projects premiering at Sundance 2018. She arranged and orchestrated on the Netflix doc series Wild Wild Country, music edited the Joan Jett: Band Reputation feature and and was both orchestrator and score supervisor on the documentaries RBG and Dark Money.

With a passion for music and collaboration, Catherine Joy is a composer for film, media and live performance. She recently won Best Documentary Score for the uplifting feature documentary Gold Balls, and in 2014 won the Independent Music Vox Pop Award for her soundtrack for the film All Things Hidden. Catherine is the Executive Director for the Alliance for Women Film Composers. She plays many instruments including violin, piano, and guitar.

Catherine is currently scoring the video game The Endless Mission along with two documentaries and a feature horror project.
Catherine has scored award-winning films, including the feature documentary Gold Balls which won Best Documentary at Southampton International Film Festival. She composed the music for the integral song in Ellen Gerstein’s short film Come Away With Me which has won many awards including Best Sound and Music at Australia’s Connect Film Festival. Catherine also scored the video game The Hole Story which won the 2016 ID@Xbox Rising Star Award.
Her work for Didgeridoo and chamber orchestra For Those Who Have Walked Ahead premiered at Benaroya Recital Hall as part of Celebrate World Music in March 2013. Catherine’s orchestral work Artist and The Muse premiered in 2012.
Catherine graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music at Cornish College of the Arts. She then completed her Masters of Music from Boston University and also went through the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring program in 2011.
Catherine is from Tasmania, Australia. She moved to the United States in 1998 to pursue a career in music.
The score never fails to provide that atmosphere and to accentuate whatever emotion holds sway over the characters on screen at any given moment. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine this film being as effective without Catherine’s score behind it. Cinema on the Rocks
