Catherine recently launched Joy Music House, the one-stop-shop for all score production services. Joy Music House is a team of composers whose work covers all aspects of score production, from in-studio assistance and music preparation through arranging and additional music. JMH is currently providing score production services for an HBO Documentary and a Plan B Entertainment film.

Feature Films

Catherine is scoring the feature documentaries Naughty Books and The Augmentation of Douglas Engelbart, and the horror feature The Parish. She is also one of the composers scoring Women Of The Island the online series of short documentaries featuring the diverse stories of Tasmanian women.

Catherine did additional arrangements on the Emmy-award winning Netflix doc series Wild Wild Country, was both orchestrator and score supervisor on the Oscar-nominated documentary RBG.

With a passion for music and collaboration, Catherine Joy is a composer for film, media and live performance. She contributed additional arrangements on the Emmy-award-winning Netflix doc series Wild Wild Country and won Best Documentary Score for the uplifting feature documentary Gold Balls. Catherine is the founder and director of Joy Music House, a one-stop-shop for all score production services. She is also the Executive Director for the Alliance for Women Film Composers.

Catherine was part of the music team on notable feature projects. She score supervised and orchestrated on The Last Black Man In San Francisco which premiered in competition at Sundance 2019. She also music edited the Joan Jett: Band Reputation feature, was both orchestrator and score supervisor on the Oscar-nominated RBG, and score supervised the HBO documentary At The Heart of Gold. Catherine also scored the popular web series Capitol Hill which is now televised through Europe and Canada. Catherine is currently scoring the video game The Endless Mission along with two documentaries and a feature horror project.

Catherine has scored award-winning films, including the feature documentary Gold Balls which won Best Documentary at Southampton International Film Festival. She composed the music for the integral song in Ellen Gerstein’s short film Come Away With Me which has won many awards including Best Sound and Music at Australia’s Connect Film Festival. Catherine also scored the video game The Hole Story which won the 2016 ID@Xbox Rising Star Award.

She is currently working on a concert work which will premiere on March 16, 2019 at the Helix Collective concert Pulling Back the Curtain. She is also working on a Ballet in collaboration with choreographer Rival Tribe which will premiere in October, 2019. Her work for Didgeridoo and chamber orchestra For Those Who Have Walked Ahead premiered at Benaroya Recital Hall as part of Celebrate World Music in March 2013. Catherine’s orchestral work Artist and The Muse premiered in 2012.

Catherine graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music at Cornish College of the Arts. She then completed her Masters of Music from Boston University and also went through the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring program in 2011.

Catherine is from Tasmania, Australia. She moved to the United States in 1998 to pursue a career in music. Catherine plays many instruments including violin, piano, and guitar.

Professional Affiliations

The score never fails to provide that atmosphere and to accentuate whatever emotion holds sway over the characters on screen at any given moment. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine this film being as effective without Catherine’s score behind it. Cinema on the Rocks
